fault insertion test
A kind of test in which a deliberate fault is introduced in one part of the system to verify that another part reacts appropriately. Initially, the faults were related to hardware but the same concept can be applied to software faults. Replacing a depended-on component (DOC) with a Saboteur that throws an exception is a good example of a software fault insertion test.
